This is a blog series I have been wanting to do for a long time… Interior design is my passion but what I love most about spaces is that it takes your personal touch to make it home, so join me as we tour the world in search of beautiful homes around the world. If you would like your home to be featured in this series please e-mail me.

First off we tour the home of Interior stylist Matt Allison,
Where in the world do you live and what is your favourite part about living there?
We’ve lived most of our lives in Cape Town, South Africa, but have been living in Sydney, Australia for the past 9-months. We live in the inner city suburb of Waterloo which is a 5-10 minute bus ride into the heart of the CBD and neighbours the creative hubs of Redfern & Surry Hills.
We love the parks, cafe/coffee culture and beaches. I love the cycle-ways that let you criss cross across town and I can take my bicycle from our home right up to the botanical gardens overlooking the harbour bridge and opera house.
What do you and your partner do for a living?
My wife is an auditor in the finance industry and I’m an interior stylist, though I think that’s just a nicer word for “multidisciplinary-creative”, I hold diplomas in both graphic & interior design.
What influences have inspired the interior design of your home?
We’re modernists with a penchant for Scandinavian design. We are minimalists at heart, we have two young children and live in an 89m2 apartment, so things have to be carefully considered. Much of the utilitarian items like storage solutions have come from IKEA, with a few signature pieces from the likes of Danish brands like Menu, Normann Copenhagen, Design House Stockholm, Hay etc.
Describe a typical Saturday in your home:
Laundry day. Seriously, while I earmark Friday as my cleaning day, there are things like laundry that need to get done and we normally do it early Saturday after sleeping in a bit and I make pancakes for the family. If we do manage to get out we hit Sydney Park, they have a great little children’s cycle track which our kids love as well as slides, park equipment and beautiful views of the city.
Thank you for allowing us into your home Matt.
