Studio Melissa Louise, Scented Soy Candles

Blog post just updated, November 2016.

This is a secret project I have been working on for the past few months, something I did for fun/therapy and now have turned it into a paying hobby, one that I was so excited to share with you all!

I don’t know about you, but I often have moments where I sit and think about the world… The world as a whole, the impact people have on it and how I can help make this world a better place. As a little girl I always hoped to leave a lasting impression on people and the world and maybe just maybe my scented soy candles can do that…

so here we go… Introducing –

Studio Melissa Louise

Ylang Ylang, Ylang Ylang’s powerful floral aroma is soothing and calming. Known to ease stress and act as an aphrodisiac.

Lemongrass, invigorates, revives and energises. Boosts the body when recovering from illness or jetlag. A good insect repellent.

and have grown our range to a total of 4 scents, including Peppermint and Sweet Orange. These are the most delicious smelling summery scents with their own healing qualities (Read: special powers.).

Peppermint, is known for its refreshing and stimulating properties. It is said to aid circulation and treat various digestive upsets, use your melted candle wax to massage onto the effected areas.

Sweet Orange, is known for treating dry skins and renewing dull complexions, an added benefit is its fresh and fruity aroma.

Today, most candles are made of paraffin wax and come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and in almost any scent that can be imagined. However, what many do not know is that there is an alternative to the commonly used paraffin wax called soy wax. Soy wax has only been around since 1991. Soy wax candles infused with essential oils not only smell wonderful they make heavenly massage lotion, Soy is also rich in Vitamin E.

Here are 5 Reasons to buy soy candles instead of regular paraffin candles

1. Use your soy candle as massage lotion

Simply light the candle and wait about 20-30 minutes until a melt pool forms. Extinguish the candle, dip fingers into the oil (or drip onto the body) and apply directly to the skin. If you would rather not burn your candle, scoop a little out using a spoon or finger and simply rub it directly on your skin.

FAQ: Will I burn myself?
Soy is only slightly warmer than your body temperature, but you may want to blow out the candle to avoid being burned by the flame. The only thing that can burn you is the actual flame. By using soy oil rather than traditional waxes, such as paraffin or beeswax, the candle is safe and comfortable to use on your skin. The warmed oil can be directly massaged into the skin, leaving the skin smooth, soft, and pleasantly scented.

FAQ: Where can I use the lotion?
The all-natural ingredients are safe for the skin and can be used all over the body. Recommended use for anywhere you would apply other beauty products. It has wonderful effects on dry scaly spots like elbows and heels. Try it on your cuticles too. Soy candles are great for massages. Remember to use sparingly…a little goes a long way.

* Those allergic to nut based products should not use Soy candles on the skin because they contain soy and sometimes other ingredients such as: jojoba or other nut based shea oils. Discontinue use if skin irritation occurs.

2. Cleaner Burning

Paraffin candles are associated with the blackness that accumulates on their jars and on surrounding walls and counters. However, soy candles give off little of this soot for a more pleasing appearance and easier breathing. In addition, soy candles are non-toxic.

3. Renewable Resources

Paraffin wax is a byproduct of petroleum and is not a renewable resource. Soy candles are made from hydrogenated soybean oil, which comes from the soybean. Soy is biodegradable and cleans up with water. Melissa Louise candles are vegan.

4. Cooler Burning

The melting point for paraffin wax is between 120 to 160 degrees. Soy candles burn at a lower temperature. While this means that soy candles will melt if kept in a warm locations, it also translates into a slower burn and a longer-lasting candle.

5. Great Aroma

Although there are some fragrance-free candles, most are loved for their pleasing aroma. The aroma in soy candles typically comes from essential oils. Because the candle burns so slowly, the aroma is released gently into the air creating a softer scent.
