I first introduced our SML + CO.llaboration series in November 2018, a series where we look forward to bringing you beautiful bespoke hand poured candles and lifestyle products through collaboration. These limited edition candles and accessories will be sold in small batches, each item will arrive at your door with a certificate of authenticity, making the perfect thoughtful gift.

Having come off the back of an incredibly successful collab with M/MSKII, we sold out all 25 units in just 3 weeks, I knew that producing a sister range to the Floral Slumber collection would have you swooning all over it.
Enthused by her recent getaway to the Cederberg, Mimi Chuan, the talented ceramicist and creative behind M/MSKII created a clay vessel that speaks of the organic shapes and forms of the Cederberg Mountains, She was inspired by the contrast of the lines, shapes and textures. Mimi was able to connect with the environment and nurture the clay to speak of this journey. Aptly I have named this collection Nature v. Nurture.
Nature Nurture
The nature versus nurture debate involves whether human behaviour is determined by the environment, or by a person’s genes. This contrast can be seen by the use of the strong straight lines, sometimes we are nurtured by the harsh criticism of society, paired with the organic natural textured pattern above it, nature. Filling these vessels with a substance as naturally delicate as soy wax continues on this theme.
I have blended a combination of Neroli and Vanilla essential oils to bring a softness to this range. Neroli a familiar scent I associate with aromatherapy treatments and Vanilla triggers fond childhood memories. Not only does this combination smell beautiful, each have their own healing properties and make for a nourishing massage oil.
Neroli oil is valued for it’s calming and relaxing scent, which acts as a natural tranquilliser that can help alleviate anxiety, relieve insomnia and even prevent or treat stress-related depression.
Vanilla essential oil contains antioxidants that are vital in anti-aging skin benefits, these antioxidants can soothe wrinkles and heal damaged skin. It too is a aphrodisiac, febrifuge, antidepressant and a relaxing substance.
